Anthropic Launches Claude Opus 5 AI Model with Advanced Performance
Anthropic has released Claude Opus 5, a new artificial intelligence model designed to deliver near-frontier performance at significantly lower costs. The model matches the capabilities of Claude Fable 5 while costing approximately half as much.
Claude Opus 5 demonstrates strong results across multiple evaluation benchmarks. On coding and knowledge work tasks, it achieves state-of-the-art performance on tests like Frontier-Bench and GDPval-AA. The model shows particular strengths in software engineering, where it surpasses competing models on benchmarks including Frontier-Bench v0.1 and CursorBench 3.2.
The model excels at problem-solving and complex analytical tasks. On ARC-AGI 3, which measures ability to solve novel problems, Opus 5 scores three times higher than the next-best model. For business automation tasks measured by Zapier AutomationBench, its pass rate is approximately 1.5 times higher than other models at equivalent cost.
Scientific and Research Applications
Opus 5 shows meaningful improvements for scientific work, particularly in life sciences. The model performs better than its predecessor on structural biology, organic chemistry, and bioinformatics tasks. On organic chemistry evaluations involving molecular structure inference from spectroscopy data, it scores 10.2 percentage points higher than previous versions.
The model is noted for its ability to verify its own work and iterate toward solutions. In practical applications, users report that Opus 5 successfully completes complex multi-step tasks that previous models could not achieve, including writing computer vision pipelines and debugging real-world software issues.
Efficiency and Accessibility
Claude Opus 5 provides improved performance relative to its predecessor, Opus 4.8, at the same cost. The model offers configurable effort settings that allow users to optimize between processing speed and result quality. It is now available as the default model on Claude Max and the primary offering on Claude Pro, making it accessible to a wide range of users and developers.
